week 12 - Wrap up: social network and catch up

Discover
Watched the video on "social networking online".
Viewed the Map from Lemonde which showed the popularity of different services around the world....interesting.

Explore
Looked at most of the examples of social networking suggested.
Have viewed and read about "second Life" ,"avatars" and read about the "second life library project".

The possibilities of using social networking at our library is endless. It can be use for client interaction, marketing and networking, but this all involves a lot of time, which none of us seem to have lately. It could be used for children's activities, youth, author talks and for CWA ladies, just to name a few.
All these modules that we have learnt about in the 12 weeks are fabulous and could be used so much in public libraries, its just mind boggling, but everything comes back to how much time we have.
I have enjoyed most of the learning experience of web 2.0 ,but I don't think i will get to use much of it again unfortunately, as I don't have a computer at home and most of my work at the library doesn't involve using it. I have enjoyed creating my own Blog.

I have completed the feedback survey and form letting you know I have finished the program.

Week 11 - Online applications and tools

Explore
Have watched the video on google docs and how it works.
Viewed the slide show on other free online tools, its just amazing how much is out there.

Discover
using my google account I created a document and shared it with nswpln@gmail.com and my friend at work Chris, just in case it didn't work this is what I created below......

week 11
create a document and invite people to share it.

Just letting you know that as from Friday 17 I will be on holidays for a week.
I will be heading up to Yamba to spend a week with my partner and my 2 dogs.
I will be spending my birthday on Wednesday on the beach with a hamburger and chips.
I can't wait....only 4 more sleeps to we leave.

this is all I could think of to write about.
see you when I get back with a tan I hope.
Leona Broekman (Thomsen)

I like how google docs can be use anywhere anytime and its free. Its pretty straight forward and easy to understand and use. It could be used for many applications in the library and at home or with friends. The list is never ending.
one week to go!!!!!

week 10 Mashups

Explore - I had a look around big huge labs, google maps, had a look at th example from the british Library.

Discover - using big huge labs, I have created a mushup using a picture from one of my holidays.

You could use mashsups at your library to create fun advertising and events for the library and I could see it used in local studies.

I found this week interesting and fun. Google maps was interesting to use and I wish I had more time to create more fun mashups.
